INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- “The Home of the World Figure 8” proudly welcomes for the first time in track history, professional wrestling to the Speedrome on June 14th. In a program that includes many known wrestling superstars, there will also be racing for our own Hornets and Roadrunners. One of the wrestlers on the card is profiled here.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan

Born on January 14, 1954, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan is the youngest of four children who father was police chief of Glen Fall Minnesota for 20 years. The multi-talented athlete lettered in many sports throughout high school and college before playing a few season of professional football.

While on a recruiting trip to Southern Methodist University, he met wrestling legend Fritz Von Eric, who suggested that he might want to give it a try. Jim had his first match with Gino Hernandez in 1979 and worked Texas for a short time. After a short stay, he went to Georgia Championship Wrestling working as a masked man, the Convict.

The next move was a big one at Mid South Wrestling, out of Bixby, OK., working for Bill Watts from 1981 to 1986. Then making the move up to the new WWF with Vince McMahon Jr. While at Mid South, he was North American Champion and Mid-South tag team champion with Terry Taylor. Duggan was the winner of the first Royal Rumble and the King of Wrestling with a win over Harley Race. His most memorable match was as the main event with Andre the Giant in Madison Square Garden.

The next move came in 1994 when Jim went with Hulk Hogan to the WCW in Atlanta, Georgia. While in the WCW, he triumphed over Steve Austin for the United States Championship and won the WCW Television title during his 7 year run.

For the last 11 years Duggan has lived on the Space Coast of Florida with his wife of 17 years Debra. Hacksaw has traveled the independent circuit since then and has worked in these countries over his career: Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Belgium, Bermuda, Canada, Dominican Republic, England, France, Germany, Guam, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Poland, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland, Trinidad and all 50 States in America. He is a true legend in the business. It’s Showtime at the Speedrome in 2006!
