New Applebee's at NW Hwy & Skillman

It's not exactly fancy cuisine, but if you want to go somewhere that supports SMU, then you should stop in to this new Applebee's and tell them thanks. They just opened, and in the back corner of the restaurant they have a section of SMU stuff -- a number 62 (Joe Holmes?) jersey, action photos of J. Romo and maybe Alvin N., some pictures of women's track, some swimming, an action photo with Pat Simpson, and a framed photo of Ford on opening day in 2000, among other things.

Bad news is that it is in the back corner by the bathrooms.

Good news is every guy who goes to the bathroom has to walk under Ford stadium.

Other good news is there wasn't any Frog purple anywhere (there was, however some Richland Thunderducks purple near the SMU stuff).

Hey, it's right by the Target, so what are you going to do. You can't shop at Neiman's all the time can you? (Unless you're Stallion, of course).

Oh no, do they already have people washing car windows there?

I've never seen an Applebee's with restroom attendants.

Never been to one with good food, either.
I'll take my appetite to Mr. Bailey's First & 10.

Your mention of the SMU photos at the new Applebee's reminds me of the SMU Football photos that were prominently displayed at Dalt's in Inwood Village (now Cafe Express). Anyone know whatever happened to those?

...many moons ago, during my Mustang Club fund drive days, I stumbled into an old broom closet in Moody....in there I found NUMEROUS original art work by the SWC cartoon guy, McClannan(sp?), black and white photos of SMU fballers going back to 1940ish, etc., etc...ALL sort of thrown on the floor, in the corner, were the pipe could drip on them...I saved a few, but maybe THAT is where all the cool Mustang junk is....forgotten somewhere??

Are there any sports staff cartoonists in existence? DMN had Bill McLanahan cartoons to look forward to on a weekly basis... the splints on Evil Eye Amos' horns, ol' sarge's crutches, knots in Peruna's tail, nails in Bevo's horns, pilot Peruna in the Hixson days, the bespectacled bear, and all of the other characters and mascots he created. There is a good assortment in Heritage Hall... if there are other originals, they oughta be preserved.

Too bad Applebees sucks. I wonder if, when they hung the pictures, there wasn't a moment like in the TV ad where the old ball coach tears up to see his face on the wall. Gag me.

I would love to see a book that had a collection of the old Bill McClanahan cartoons from the SWC. The DMN must have those in their archives. If they were smart, they would publish a book with those cartoons.
