Rape and sexual assault are issues that impact everyone, either directly or indirectly. Former SMU track/cross country star Monika Kørra was raped in 2009, and responded by starting a foundation to help other survivors, traveling around the country to share her story and now writing a book called Kill the Silence: A Survivor's Life Reclaimed.

Kørra will be signing copies of her book ($25) at the Hall of Fame Club in the east end of SMU's Moody Coliseum this Tuesday, Aug. 25, starting at 6:30 p.m. Guests will get the chance to hear a little of Monika's first-hand account, and also will hear from one of the prosecutors in her case and Dallas Police Chief David Brown.
Rape and sexual assault can happen anywhere, including on college campuses across the country. Studies suggest that between 60 and 80 percent of rapes and sexual assaults go unreported, meaning very few who commit these awful crimes ever spend a day in jail.
To say the subject is unpleasant is an understatement, but it is a topic that everyone — male and female — needs to discuss. Please make plans to be at the book signing, buy books to support the foundation and help Kørra continue to share her story to help other survivors.
