They have a bunch ov ivy league kids and kids from UVa and Duke. They have been impressed with my son's ability to network and work a room. He is already a favorite of the Dean of Fuqua. He's got that from SMU. As a parent, i couldn't ask for more.

My old Fortune 50 employer hired from the one year program out of Wake so I presume Duke's students would do even better. One I knew spent three years at "Big Corporate company" in a finance role and is now at Michigan's Ross MBA program. McKinsey internship. Good things come to smart/dedicated SMU football players!

Good info Coog! As a parent, I was very pleased with my boy's education at SMU. He always speaks of the opportunities he had to be a well rounded student at SMU. He got a chance to play big time football (played against, Johnny Manziel, and RGIII), got a paper published in the Undergrauate Journal of Poli Sci, and he tried to start an independent on line newspaper. That last venture failed, but he actually tried to start a new business.

So, he has a lot of memorable stuff to bring to interviews. He wasn't a business major at SMU, but he still learned a lot about how business works.

SMU had a pretty big jump in total R&D from 2013 to 2014

here are the 2014 numbers

http://ncsesdata.nsf.gov/herd/2014/html ... ST_19.html

SMU total R&D $32,401,000 for 2014

2013 numbers $22,544,000

http://ncsesdata.nsf.gov/herd/2013/html ... ST_17.html

so about a $10 million jump between the two years....these numbers do go up and down to a degree, but that is still a boost and as the second link shows SMU has been on an overall growth path (with some ups and downs) over the last several years, but the $30+ million level is quite a bump from the recent past

Federal funded R&D had some growth as well

http://ncsesdata.nsf.gov/datatables/her ... ST_20.html

2013 14,274,000

http://ncsesdata.nsf.gov/herd/2014/html ... ST_21.html

2014 $20,611,000

so again a jump into the $20 million range and a jump above the highest levels of any of the past few years

Coogs at $141MM and $2MM more than Rice. Wow, Pitt has over $800MM and is one spot ahead of the Aggies. Baylor is down in the $20s.

Wow, you have to spend a ton of money to get a research program going. You have to know what the NSF is looking for and write grants like crazy. It helps a ton to have PhD and graduate programs. SMU has quite a few in the life sciences.

That's awesome. We toured there last year while in Boston and it's a tour de force. What really set them apart to me was their international research opportunities at every turn...winter break, summer, etc.
