The courses offered can actually offer a pretty good academic overview of a number of military and military related subjects and themes. Just off the top of my head there are

- Military themes in Literature
- History of the Middle East
- Organizational Management
- Sharia Law
- Human Rights (which can be easily tied into the Geneva Convention and the Law of War)
- A number of courses on the Civil War

and a few others. Take into account you can have two courses you can design yourself and you have a strong background into an actually practical degree for an service member, and they like Master's Degrees nowadays. I told the program director that she ought to market more to military members and she agreed but the problem is how to get them to SMU - Dallas is a little out of the way from any major military installations. So, yes, the MLS has genuine military applications.
