My starting salary out of SMU was $9,600/year. Of course I was paid in various trinkets and ores.

No a real office job. That music degree goes a long way.

The question MRydel, is how much did 4 years of an SMU education cost back then for you to earn that $9,600 salary, which you describe as 'good'.

I graduated in the mid-80's and made $21,600 on my first job (also considered 'good'). I don't recall how much an SMU education cost as my parents footed the bill. I did receive some financial support by being a resident of Texas. I seriously doubt my parents paid over $21,600 total for my 4 year SMU education.

Well since mine was paid for by athletics I did not pay much attention. Bubba Pony was there at the same time and could answer. For some reason I want to say it was about $2,600/year, but I really have no good recollection.

Also, my starting job was a Jr. Exec position with a Fortune 500 company.

In 87, full year tuition, room, board, and fees was around $14K although it did go up every year

So my point is, during the '70's & '80's, upon graduating from SMU, with a 'good' salary you could earn during your 1st year about the cost of your 4 years of education.

Contrast that to today.

Snob, how much was tution only?

Also, I think back then most residents of Texas qualified for some type of grant, merely because they were residents of Texas. I'm guessing now, but I would say $5k over a 4-year period, which in hindsight was rather generous.

Seem to remember it being $4500 a semester.

I was a life guard at Clearwater Beach in 1975 and I cannot remember what the city paid me. You're not supposed to remember the seventies.

As an uneducated fool and a good salesperson I made $46,000 my first year in 1977 selling furniture at Art Van.

My roommate worked for Ford Motor Company had two bachelor's and a master's and made 26k
