12) Southern Methodist University – Dallas, TX

With a total 237 acres among the wide sprawl of urban Dallas, SMU is a respite from the surrounding city bustle. The majority of the buildings are done in the Georgian Revival style, supposedly designed after the University of Virginia’s Rotunda by the team of Boston architects that first spearheaded the campus development. The oldest building on campus is Dallas Hall, named in honor of the supporting local community, and the most substantial project in recent years has been the development of the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which holds the former president’s library and museum. The school also prides itself on its many open green spaces and its numerous tree-lined walkways.

The only one that can reasonably be ranked ahead of SMU in Texas is Rice. This list is garbage.

Drive by there every day M-F. It is a nice campus, especially with the addition of the modern coffee shop outside their Fondren Library.

I like Rice's campus but I bet 7 out of 10 would say ours is nicer.

A&M is the ugliest of all Texas campus's. This must be satire.

If that is the author - then it is a 20 year old kid from New Jersey who went to Univ. of Deleware. He knows nothing - probably never even set foot in the state of Texas.

As far as I am aware, the Neuhoff Catholic Student Center, across the street East of the Simmons School buildings, is the only one that doesn't conform. The plans got approved and it was built using SMU-style bricks, but clearly it is not "in the Georgian style."

Meadows is contemporary/mid century. Umphrey Lee doesn’t really comply, too.
