Southern Methodist University has sold its Plano campus.

The 16-acre, four-building campus on Tennyson Parkway was founded in 1997 and has been up for sale since last year.

The property — in the booming Legacy business park — was acquired by a partnership headed by Dallas developer Trammell Crow Co., county deed records show.

Called SMU in Plano, the 48,000-square-foot branch campus once housed facilities for Electronic Data Systems. It had been used for SMU's graduate video game development program, the Center for Family Counseling and the Center for Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management. SMU said when it put the Plano campus up for sale that it would move those programs back to its main Dallas campus.

Trammell Crow officials say they are still working on plans for the property. "We are excited about future development opportunities," Crow senior managing director Scott Krikorian said in an email.

Newmark Knight Frank brokered the sale.

"This sale provided SMU the opportunity and ability to redeploy capital to its main campus and create cohesiveness between all programs," Newmark Knight Franks' Rebecca Griffin said in a statement.

Griffin brokered the sale along with Newmark Knight Frank's Lispah Hogan and Sara Fredericks.

Trammell Crow Co. has been a big player in Legacy business park for years, developing both office and residential buildings.

The developer is working on a new business campus on Legacy Drive that will include more than 1 million square feet of offices in four buildings.

Legacy business park is one of the state's largest employment centers with more than 50,000 workers in the area.

Sounds like a good deal for SMU, and it makes sense to focus on Dallas as we continue to seek recognition as Dallas' team with the new football uniforms and stuff like that.

Just googled Trammell Crow donations, didn’t realize Trammell and Margaret Crow family donated $23 million of Asian Art to UTD earlier this year.

Completed the EDS OPD and SED programs as well as a stint as an assistant instructor in those buildings for the better part of 6 months in the early 90's. Took initial classes for my SMU MBA there in early 2000's. Great memories.

I went through my EDS Phase Two SED training at that building as well, in November of 89!

It was a nice gift from EDS to SMU back then.
