based on the quality of the students, I really believe we are very close to Tulane (which is in the 40-45 ranking). With the employment opportunities in the DFW area and the students coming in, we need to be much higher. We need to do a much better job at the HS reach out level to get students to apply knowing that scholarships will be there.

Our admissions rate must drop, we must continue to invest in faculty and research to get our peer recognition up, and we must, must invest in career services. We have a diverse student body and must ensure we are engaging with top employers across the country. Do that and we will be a top 45 / top 40 national academic school.

$1MM donated to Hegi Family Career Center
Cox Career Center does a fine job.

Added top notch dorms with two year residence requirement to boost retention and grad rates.

New $1.5B Ignited! campaign should add more resources. Cox has received quite a bit of money recently. Other colleges and need-based aid will hopefully get boosts as well. Pell Grant percentage went up a couple points this last year and continues to be a focus.

Three schools (Villanova, LMU and Santa Clara) entered the national rankings at or above SMU since 2017. LMU fell below SMU this year.

Of SMU's aspirational institutions, the average rank is 33. In 2014, it was 31. Northeastern, BC and Brandeis have lost three to ten points since then. Only Tulane has improved, and it went from 52 in 2014 to 42 now.

Of SMU's operationally similar institutions, only Pepperdine, Denver and Syracuse have improved since 2014. Tulsa, GW Fordham and Lehigh have dropped more than SMU's eight points. Baylor and TCU have been rather resilient in the mid-70s and low-80s, respectively.
