DALLAS (SMU) - SMU and SMU Athletics, in conjunction with the SMU Lettermen's Association, have announced the newest class of the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame. The inductees include Barbara Blackwell, Putt Choate, Colt Knost and Jay Needham. The inductees will be recognized at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony on Friday, November 12th in the Miller Event Center at Moody Coliseum.

Barbara Blackwell – Women's Golf 1988-92
Blackwell was a two-time All-American, two-time SWC medalist and three-time All-SWC honoree. She led the Mustangs to the team SWC championship in 1992, and won individual conference championships in 1990 and 1992. The Mustangs made the NCAA Championships three times during her career, finishing as high as 12th as a team in 1991, when she tied for ninth individually. The Mustangs claimed five regular-season tournament titles and she won seven tournaments individually during her career. Blackwell also qualified for the 1991 U.S. Open while still competing at SMU.

Putt Choate – Football 1975-78
Choate was a two-time All-Southwest Conference linebacker from 1975-78. He holds the SMU tackles record for a season (253 in 1978) and a career (649). Choate has three of the top five season tackles marks and three of the top five single-game totals. His professional football career spanned from 1979 to 1987, with stints for the Atlanta Falcons (NFL), Denver Gold (USFL), San Antonio Gunslingers (USFL) and Green Bay Packers (NFL).

Colt Knost – Men's Golf 2003-07
Knost won an SMU-record seven tournaments during his career and helped the Mustangs to 13 team tournament championships, including three straight conference titles (2004, 2005, 2006). He was an All-American and conference golfer of the year in 2007, a banner year for Knost as he reached No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, winning both the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Public Links titles, one of two people to win both events in the same year. Knost was also part of the 2007 U.S. Walker Cup Team, going 2-0-2 in a 12 ½ to 11 ½ win for the United States. The three-time all-conference honoree still holds the record for low round by a Mustang at 61. Knost would go on to play 199 PGA Tour events, finishing in the top 10 on nine occasions. He also had two tournament victories on the Korn Ferry Tour. He is currently a television announcer for PGA Tour coverage with CBS Sports and the host of a popular golf podcast.

Jay Needham – Men's Soccer 2003-06
Needham was a two-time All-Region and All-C-USA honoree as well as a 2006 All-American and Hermann Trophy finalist. The Mustangs earned NCAA Tournament bids each season, advancing to the 2005 College Cup. After his SMU career, he was selected in the third round of the 2007 MLS Super Draft.
