From SMUMustangs.com:

SMU Is The No. 1 AAC Program In The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Fall Standings

CLEVELAND (NACDA) - SMU is the No. 1 American Athletic Conference program and ranks 32nd nationally in the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Division I Fall Standings with 164.5 points.

The Mustangs won AAC championships in football, men's soccer and volleyball, while women's soccer finished runner-up and cross country placed third. Football, men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball combined to go 38-4-2 (.886) in league play in the fall.

Football went 11-3, claiming the program's 12th conference title and first since 1984. The Mustangs recorded their most wins since 1982, including an 8-0 mark in league play for the first time. SMU earned a bowl bid for the fifth straight season and was ranked No. 22 in the final AP Top 25.

Volleyball went 26-7, earning its first conference title since 2016 with an 18-1 AAC mark. The Mustangs earned an NCAA Tournament bid, advancing to the second round before falling to eventual national champion Texas.

Men's soccer went 14-3-2 this season and also went undefeated in the AAC at 7-0-1. SMU was the national No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the third round.
Women's soccer finished runner-up in The American for the second straight season, finishing 11-6-1 overall. Cross country finished third at the AAC Championships and sixth at the NCAA South Central Regional.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.

Learfield Director's Cup D1 Final Fall Standings

Postby GHammond » Wed Jan 17, 2024 4:04 pm

SMU at #32 and sits as the highest ranked AAC program, with Football, Men's Soccer, and Women's Volleyball providing our points.
Someone on a Big 12 site was yapping about all the Big 12 hoops schools ranked in the Top 25 and thus the Big 12 is by far the best conference, overall, in all sports, period. FIVE Big 12 schools are in the Learfield Top 35....TEN ACC schools are in the Top 35. SMU ahead of Nebraska, Memphis, Ole Miss, A$M, Kentucky, MIZZOU, Ohio St., LSU, KU, Baylor, Auburn, TCU(#117), and Purdue, to name a few.

#32 on a list of 250 is impressive, PP. The fact that our overall athletic performance is superior at this point to quite a few traditional powers is encouraging and something to be proud of…you should educate yourself and study the data, instead of chirping some tired tag line from 25 years ago.

I have always valued the role of the Director's Cup when it highlights the performance of a university's understanding and contributions to the importance of athletics in an educational environment. It is also no surprise that non-revenue sports for men and women often reveal high graduation rates and GPAs.

BTW, two of new conference mates, Cal and Stanford, value the importance of sports and are annually ranked at top of the Director Cup results.
