It's one thing to spend an offseason overcoming a sprained ankle or a broken bone. But SMU cornerback J.R. Richardson, who has sickle cell trait, had his offseason basically wiped out when he was hit by a condition he said was described as a person's muscle "basically eating itself." Richardson visited with PonyFans.com to explain what he went through, his recovery regimen, how his health has affected his mother, and when he hopes to be back on the field for the Mustangs. Great story. Hopefully J.R. bounces back from this and can play quickly. Kid has a strong constitution.
Back off Warchild seriously.

He is a really solid guy and has definitely handled adversity in an admirable fashion. I sure hope he continues to get better and if he can come back for the Baylor or any game that is a huge plus for us.

This is arguably the biggest story of the year in SMU football (QB situation possibly only one trumping it).
My immediate reaction:
1 - Damn, JR is one amazing young man. 2 - Damn, PF puts out the best content out there and we don't even have to pay for it. Amazing work, PP. 3 - It's a shame all this has happened as this young man was a big time recruit in an area we REALLY REALLY need. 4 - I hope he continues to improve and has a great year with no more setbacks. Very proud to call him a fellow Mustang!

Ditto. Can't change one word ojaipony said. Spot-on.
People, if you haven't read this story, you really need to. Terrific story about a very tough, impressive (on and off the field) young man. So proud he plays for my alma mater.

Thanks for the kind words! But in all fairness, this story only happened because J.R. was willing to open up and discuss it. So thanks to him.
