So is this eligibility question for Markus still unsettled? In other words, is this something that is going to go down to the wire. . . or can we pretty much write him off for the Fall semester at this point? If so, I certainly hope there is a chance we could see him in January.

It sounds like he is certain to miss the fall semester but has a chance to make it back by January. And that's not based on what I've read on this board.

Unfortunately I'm hearing the same from a credible source.

What chance does he have to regain eligibility? Will he play at SMU again?
This really hurts

I am not too confident of a NCAA run without MK.

I think SMU is doing all it can from an institutional stand point to get kids eligible. They have lowered admissions standards to the minimum required by the NCAA, and they give kids access to easier majors and lots of academic support. Other than blatantly cheating on academic requirements (ala what happened at UNC), which I don't think even powerhouse schools do, what more can SMU do? At some point this is on the kid who simply may not be able to make the grades or just doesn't take it seriously. If SMU can keep all of the other kids eligible (some of whom came from extremely poor educational backgrounds) my guess is this is 100% on MK. This doesn't mean MK is a bad kid but pretty much every basketball program deals with this from time to time.

what I don't understand is why is he majoring in History if he's not necessarily at that level? I mean where is his counselor.

It may not be 100% on MK. LB is still fighting some battles from what I have heard. Also, history is not a blowoff major.
