You can't do anything against a guard that decides to go off on you.
Yea this is my point.

anyone would take kareem (lew alcindor then) over any point guard. all depends on who the best player is. kareem, bill walton, bill russell, wilt, shaq seems like we are in a period now without any dominant centers so the pgs dominate.
i like our current team. we seem to have a good mixture plus a dominant pg. if we had an instant offense 6th man we would be unstoppable.

We're really stretching here. College game is way different. You need both, no need to bring the 5 best big men to play the game into a discussion regarding Markus Kennedy and Yanick Moreira.

Totally, that is why Shaq won a championship in college. Oh, wait, I mean Duncan. Oh, wait, Aldridge. Oh wait... Teams can't ride a big to a championship like they used to in the 80s and before. The three has too much of an impact. There have been several teams that won a championship with dominant guards and no dominant big over the last 30 years. I can't name any who won with a dominant big and no dominant guards.

2011 UK pretty much rode the 'Brow to a title.

Oh, wait, Aldridge. aldridge? who said anything about him? shaq played 2 years in college. was headed for smu but that's another story. anyone remember hakeem olajuwon? duncan and shaq won many nba titles. they trip over the trophies when they walk inside their houses. those guards who played with them kisss the ground they walk on. if you want to talk waste of space there are plenty of nba guards who will never in a million years sniff an nba title.

Dominant big men win championships in the NBA because of a) there is no real effective zone defense (because NBA teams shoot to0 well for it to be effective) b) NBA teams generally are much much better at free throws so a big that can rack up fouls on the other team gives their team a huge advantage when reaching the bonus c) dominant big men in the NBA force double teams which make NBA level guards absolutely deadly.
In college big men are not as dominant because a) anyone who has the potential to be dominant big usually leaves for the NBA early. This means their bodies and their game are not as developed as they will be in the NBA b)there is way more zone played in college that can deny the big the chance to get the ball c) the 3 point shot is more valuable in college because it is closer (leading to a higher shooting percentage).

just watch Coach Brown's Houston post-game; he made reference again to the guys we have on the bench (Semi and Tolbert) and the guys coming in next year and said something to the effect "they better get us now"

Easy with that. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here cuz we're beating up on poor AAC teams lately. MK and Yanick duo is a serious force for sure, but we're setting our sights for bigger things than crushing Tulane and Temple. Cincy has a big frontcourt that we were outmatched by, Zaga has big boys with skill, Texas has great length, that's just a couple. Most teams in the tourney will be able to match us up front...I mean at least that's what I'm looking forward to, not AAC tourney.
You are forgetting that Kennedy did not play against either the Zags or Cinci; and he is just now rounding into shape. With him I think we would also have beaten Indiana and probably \ Arkansas. We have him now and even without Keith - the team seems to be playing much better. We will know more after the Tulsa game.

You are right Mrydel - Larry did make that quote in his first year at SMU, but if you will go to PonyFans homepage and listen to the interview that Larry gave after the Houston game he says it again. It may be a reaction to the NCAA allegations or it may be to the loss of Mudiay and Frazier - but he clearly says it again but you have to listen closely because it goes by fairly quickly.
