UTA 'Rebranding' Itself...The Mavericks want to change their image from UTA to University of Texas - Arlington.
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION... UT ARLINGTON COMMUNITY INVITED TO STAR IN PROMOTIONAL VIDEO UT Arlington students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to flaunt their Maverick pride Friday through Sunday by participating in a video taping of “Maverick Manifesto,†a promotional video designed to spotlight the new university branding campaign set to debut in February 2006. Participants are encouraged to bring smiles and wear jeans, slacks, dress shirts and school items and clothing with non-collegiate logos -–UT Arlington shirts without logos are OK. The narrative video will feature a student’s journey from high school to UT Arlington and “seeks to redefine ‘Mavericks’ as independent thinkers who blaze their own trail. We want to see a crowd of alumni, student leaders and faculty/staff,†said Lynn Handley, vice president of communications. The promotional video will presented Feb. 15, 2006, at the brand launch.
Correction - New UTA NameI have heard from more than one credible source that new name will actually be The University of Texas at Asia.
It'll be a cold day in Hell before you see me connected with anything connected with the University of Texas - (fill in the blank with whatever city applies) !!!!
UT-Asia, ahahahahahah!!!! That's hilarious...
Quick story: One time, my buddy and I were bored and decided to go cruise the other campuses in the metroplex. We drove to Arlington, but couldn't find the greek housing anywhere on campus, no signs for it or anything. We knew there was one, so we figured "let's find a computer lounge and look it up online". We wander, in the dark, over to some creepy old student center looking area and walk into one of the biggest computer labs I've ever seen. Easily several hundred computers...and almost every one occupied by someone of Asian decent. Here it was, maybe 1am, and this lab is packed with people. And are they studying, typing papers, etc? No. As we walked among the rows of computers, I realized that almost everyone in there was a) watching a movie on the computer b) running some kind of filesharing program, and illegaly downloading music or c) watching/downloading porn. About 2/3 of the people we walked past either leaned in over the moniter or turned it off completely, so we couldn't see what they were doing. Several guys had claimed two computers side by side and were going back and forth doing who knows what. Nothing against Asian people at all, but I couldn't believe UTA had so many, and that they were all apparently being housed in this 24 hour computer lab. From high on the hilltop, in Big D...
This is the 'general thread'. It's open to discussion about anything. And UTA is in the D-FW area. Are you going to tell the folks who have been talking about TCU, UNT, the Longhorns, the Aggies, the Bears, etc. to do the same over on the football/basketball/other sports forums?
Pretty much when you post. Seriously, what does this have to do with SMU other than people making anti-asian jokes? Obviously I am as bored as you and tryng to incrase my post count like you.
I believe today is that day, break out your UT hat..........
*LOL* If you think this is cold, you need to travel more often my friend. And I would never call Dallas 'Hell'!
FYI, UTA's student population is 10% international.
No, we are not as lilly white as SMU, but I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing. Judging from a previous post, I guess if you want to see a bunch of Asians on campus, visit the Preston Hall computer center in the wee hours, or, undoubtedly, go to the engineering quad. Greek Row is on the west side of campus, on Greek Row Drive, in fact. I guess the campus maps were not lit up enough, or something.
