SMU pledge Charlie Brewer of Lake Travis (14-1) will have a chance to set a national record for the best completion percentage in a season when he plays in Saturday's 8 p.m. Class 6A Division I final against The Woodlands (15-0).
"Wow. I didn't realize that," Lake Travis coach Hank Carter said in an email Tuesday morning.
Brewer has completed 77.9 percent of his passes, going 236-for-303. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations record book, the national record for a season, with a minimum of 275 pass attempts, is held by Dano Graves of Folsom, Calif. Graves completed 75.2 percent of his passes in 2009 to break the national record of 75.1 that had been held by Tim Couch, the No. 1 pick in the 1999 NFL draft.
