Firing a coach this late in the year means they have another guy lined up.

Could be Chip Kelly but other than living in beautiful NorCal and not having to move.... Why would he take over a rebuild with modest fan support when he can have better jobs next year? TAMU would love Chip Kelly if Sumlin goes 8-4 next year.

Actually, a better hire would the Minnesota HC as special assistant for the defense.

Starting next season, Cal will require that 80 percent of its recruits have a 3.0 grade-point average.

Agreed: Chip's not going to Bezerkeley.
