I saw someone mention this and agree. Lets add WSU for hoops and then add WKU (Maybe Akron) for all sports. Not quite the draw of UConn in football but not much off since UConn isn't very good. WSU would make up for the loss in hoops and WKU is rising with Stansbury.

Can't let UConn be football only though because one they suck at football so no addition and second would give other team the idea of doing the same as them. I don't get why we haven't added WSU already.

The Huskies won 17 regular season and tournament titles in the old Big East, but their program has had to fight to stay nationally relevant since joining the American Athletic Conference despite winning the 2014 national title.

UCONN's inability to stay nationally relevant is their own fault, not the AAC. The conference didn't cause them to lose to Wagner and Northeastern this year.

UConn can't leave! UCF would be devastated that their trophy for the Civil Conflict would be gone!

Just a guess but I think these stories are being leaked to pressure the other AAC schools to step it up in hoops and/or look to add another quality hoops school like WSU. I'm pretty sure UConn has put a lot of money in football over the past few years to try and get into a P5. I can't imagine they will give that up this quickly and end the football program, which is what moving basketball back to the Big East would do.

IF UConn leaves, Wichita State seems to be the obvious choice for basketball only.

I'd say we have to look out for our own interests too. We need to make a push to the P5 and I'm liking the ACC in terms of fit. Football is the only thing that's stopping us from going P5.

Somehow, I doubt the UConn boosters driving this are that subtle. Sounds more like ego/pride and lack of traditional rivals in the AAC are the biggest factors for them. My guess is that they would definitely make a move if they could figure out the football piece. But I agree that's a tough piece for them to figure out if they want to stay FBS.

Everyone would make that move. Randy Edsell didn't come back to UConn to be relegated to MAC, CUSA or FCS football. Everyone wants to move to a "better" conference with more money and place their other sports in the best possible location. Won't happen. The day they make the move to the Big East for basketball is the day they can move football down to compete with UMass and Villanova. No P5 conference will come calling for them ever again. Permanent and voluntary relegation.

UConn fans are undoubtedly looking at the Big East (and the loss of their longtime traditional rivals) much like many of us old-timers look at the loss of our SWC rivals to the Big XII. Times change and we all just have to do what we can to improve our programs but you can always schedule those old rivals in non-conference games.
