No. 6 SMU Sets School Record in 16-4 Senior Day Rout
Set Record For Most Points In A Meet, Largest Margin Of Victory; Sweeps MOP Honors

DALLAS (SMU) – The No. 6 SMU equestrian team honored its seniors with a 16-4 victory over No. 9 New Mexico State Saturday at the Dallas Equestrian Center. The Mustangs won all four disciplines, en route to setting the school record for most points in a meet and the largest margin of victory.

"It was wonderful to honor our senior class with a big victory over a good New Mexico State team," SMU head coach Carol Gwin said. "This was a great weekend moving into our road slate."

The Mustangs (5-2, 3-0 UEC) opened the day with a 5-0 sweep in Equitation Over Fences. Sophomore Alexandra Murphy led off the event with an 85-79 victory over Samantha Perlman, before Nora Gray edged Karianna Knezevich, 81-79. Freshman Vivian Yowan earned her third MOP of the season following an 88-65 rout of Erica Rosinski. Senior Sylvia de Toledo topped Remington Willkie, 79-70, before fellow senior Alexis Graves closed the event with an 80-74 win over Madison Brayman.

In reining, the Mustangs bested the Aggies, 4-1. Olivia Pakula opened scoring with a 71-68.5 win over Kimmy Ferrante. Junior Keagan Snively recorded a 76.5, the highest western score in program history, en route to an MOP-winning 76.5-74 decision over Kiley Newkirk. Madison Steed bested Hallie Padilla, 73.5-66, before senior Jaclyn White rounded off the event with a 73-72.5 win over Katherine Arnold.

Following intermission, SMU won Equitation on the Flat, 4-1. Gray bested Brayman, 80-73, for the flat MOP, her third honor in two days. Senior Leina King improved to 3-0 this season following a 71-63 win over Knezevich. Yowan and de Toledo both earned their second wins of the day, with Yowan topping Grace McMurry, 78-72, before de Toledo won 77-66 over Isabel Walton.

SMU claimed the final event, horsemanship, 3-2. Senior Kelsey Karanges topped Alyssa Luckhardt, 73-65 to open scoring. Ashley Mauney won her first career MOP award following a 74-63.5 rout of Morgan Matzdorff. Michaela Dinger bested Katlynn Crine, 73.5-48.5, to clinch the discipline victory.

The SMU equestrian team heads to Fresno, Calif., Feb. 17-18 for the meets against Fresno State and Baylor.
