The stated reason was parking and disruption of the campus.
It's not like they'd host the First Round games at Moody though. I kind of agree with them not adding even more parking issues to an already congested campus.
okay... i'm going to vent, so y'all can ignore me. i see the WMBA as another opportunity for SMU to step up on the national stage (let alone what it would do for our WBB team) that was missed. this is not the only one. forget about the donations, getting people on campus - how would this help recruiting, football, MBB, ... there are many threads about missed opportunities and marketing. How would a professional team at Moody have helped us?

I mean this sincerely, but it's gonna sound snarky: I had no idea there was even a WNBA team in Dallas.
I'm not sure it would've really moved the needle for recruits...
Honestly I'm glad that SMU turned them down. As a student it would suck to have more traffic and events going on at moody just for a WNBA team. I reckon we'd get zero benefit from the team moving here besides the donation. WNBA games are also probably one of the least watched events on tv.
WMBA plays something like 34 game schedules starting in mid May. In other words, the summer. So much for congestion on the campus.
We missed a huge marketing coup on that one. Opportunity to advertise the boulevard and basketball to 2000 fans or more per game. Dallas is big time and we don’t act big time.

This is textbook smu. What is this? Retaliation for title ix or something?
okay. i''ll one more fact to show why i am unhappy. the owners of the WNBA Wings are also majority owners of NBA OKC Thunder. How would this affect our program - having NBA owners at moody? Lost/missed opportunities. how would this affect recruiting? okay is it Oklahoma, LOL. think it would affect MBB?
