Mustangs’ First Away Game Ends in 1-1 Draw

DALLAS (SMU) --- SMU and Saint Louis ended in a 1-1 draw Saturday night, marking the sixth time in program history that the two teams have ended in a deadlock through 34 all-time meetings.

Saint Louis opened the scoring for the match when Ben Huels converted on a corner kick in the 40th minute, but the Mustangs came out of the locker room at halftime with a renewed vigor and Emil Cuello would tally the equalizer in the 52nd minute.

Nicky Hernandez, being pestered by Billiken defenders, drew a foul and was rewarded a free kick. Eddie Munjoma and Cuello would set up 25 yards out from the goal to resume play, Munjoma playing the decoy, and the Orem, Utah native would find the back of the net for the first time this season and the eighth time of his career.

The Mustangs return back to the Hilltop for matchups against Houston Baptist on Friday, Sept. 14 and Gonzaga on Sunday, Sept. 16 at Westcott Field. SMU will play at 7 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
