Osborne Claims Individual Title in Collegiate Debut, SMU Ties For First in Shortened Tournament

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — Freshman Charles Osborne fired a one-under (71) today to claim the individual championship at three-under (141) and SMU would finish tied for first overall at the shortened Invitational at the Ocean Course Tournament, locking at one-over (577) after 36 holes with the College of Charleston. The final round, to be played the morning of Sept. 11, was canceled due to mandatory state evacuation in preparation of Hurricane Florence.

"I'm very proud of the team and the way they battled all the way to the finish," said Head Coach Jason Enloe. "I'm very excited to get the win along with host College of Charleston. The guys have worked hard so far this season and it showed the last two days. So proud of Charles, who won his first ever collegiate event on a very challenging Ocean Course. We'll look to continue our good play in a few weeks when we host the Trinity Forest Invitational Sept. 23-25."

Osborne fired five birdies today, bringing his total to a tournament-best 10, helping SMU collect a tournament-leading 38 total over the two days of play. The freshman also posted the best Par 5 average of the entire field.

Sophomore McClure Meissner submitted another even round to end the tournament at 144 total, placing him tied for fifth overall and matching his career-best finish. Freshman Ben Wong carded an even round this afternoon, helping him climb one leaderboard spot and wrapping up play tied for seventh at one-over (145) in his collegiate debut. Sophomore Noah Goodwin fell one spot to finish tied for 17th overall after recording a one-over (73) and a three-over (147) total. Jackson Markham's one-over (73) round on the day helped him jump 13 places to finish tied for 36 at seven-over (151) overall.

Individual Justin Thompson finished tied for 24th after finishing even on the day and four-over (148) for the tournament and was the field's top individual.
