Jordan Carmouche at Armed Forces Bowl

Postby Donnell88 » Sat Dec 22, 2018 5:06 pm

Former SMU linebacker Jordan Carmouche, who transferred to Houston after his freshman season, looks rather ordinary against Army, who are leading 42-7 late in the first half.

Should Army be invited to the AAC? Seems like a natural.

I like the idea. If nothing else, the Army-Navy game would do wonders for attendance/visibility.

Always wanted to go to a game at West Point. I'd make that trip.

Until they eliminate cut blocking I would not like playing 2 triple option teams a year. We are always too thin on the OL and do not need to increase the odds of losing more.

Or DL ...

That's a good point. Or, on the other hand, it might help defend Navy better, since we'd have to face the triple option more than once a year.

I would prefer to drop Navy and add BYU.

We should run the triple option. Not sure why more teams don’t in college football.

We have 12 members for both football and bball with Navy and Wichita State, respectively. Army & Navy don't want to give up their $$$ game and IIRC, Navy made a deal where they don't share any of that revenue with other AAC teams. Not sure BYU would want to play in a conference with nobody in their time zone, but it might help late season scheduling. Not sure Navy would want to have to go back to Indy scheduling, either. Our conference works pretty well as is and while Army is in an "up cycle", Navy has dominated them in the recent past.

A number of years ago I had the chance to spend some time with then Pitt coach Dave Wansteadt. I asked him about his forthcoming game with Navy. He commented that he never looked forward to Navy because he would always lose 3 linemen for extended periods of time if not the rest of the season because of the cut blocking.

Navy isn't the problem It is the type of blocking they execute that induces so many injuries.

With all of the rules changes enacted to help keep players healthy, cut blocking should be next on the list.

However, nothing is going to get done unless the members of their conference complain about it...
