This could be very close to the truth.

Could have sworn this was discussed during one of the early telecasts this season but the comment was (after talking about sanctions, injuries and the limited roster) that the standard was NCAA appearances...starting NEXT year when we were back to a 13 man roster.

Hadn't heard about the sanctions, injuries, and limited roster.

If it were up to you we’d still have June Jones coaching our football team.

Broadcasters of a game can state whatever they want to. The fact that we haven't had a 13 man roster in years and years is beyond the point. If there is another non-NCAA appearance this season (and probably non-NIT) and the administration decided to keep Jank, Miller would be pissed, other top donors would be pissed, and season tickets would plummet. There is no way they would keep Jank around.

Over-react much? You guys are right, this is the exact same scenario as June Jones. The first sub-par season, lots of frustration heading into the new season. Lots of stories about difficulties on the recruiting trail. Frustration with the assistant coaches. Complaints about practice. Honestly, exactly the same.

And, very similarly, nobody blindly backed June Jones. Or Jank. All we are saying is that things will play out. We made a point that June had earned one year to turn things around. He actually had one game and the plug was pulled. This is Jank's year to turn things around. And if he doesn't (and of course it very clearly looks like he won't), the plug will be pulled. We all know that is going to happen, and it will be the right move when it does. And SMU will go and do the work to find a high quality replacement, just like they have done in football and in BB over the past 5 years. Rip on Hart and the admin all you want for the disaster of the reseat (much deserved scorn), but they have actually done a good job recently of identifying good coaches to bring in.

I think the issue is that many of us are less than confident that it will happen even though it so obviously needs to (or should say needed to already).

If the program had any sign of improvement it would be a different story for Jank. There are four vital factors for any successful program - winning, recruiting, player development and attendance. The arrow is pointing down in all of these categories, significantly down. The last 18 months of recruiting has been his ultimate downfall and really the last nail in the coffin IMO. He failed to either close, prioritize or have interest in at least eight recruits we could have had during this time. All would be significant upgrades from what we currently have on the roster, especially the back end of the roster. The rejections of Archie and Liddell were the last straws for me. As I have asked the few remaining Jank supporters, I want to know ONE thing the guy does well as a head coach. I still haven’t heard a good answer.

Oh c'mon LA. He's got a ton of great things:

1) Best fake account
2) Best critics
3) Games and memes developed for him
4) Attracts a ton of attention on twitter main because of 2 & 3.

I agree with you on Hart. He's not perfect but his coaching hires have been very good. What I'm afraid of is that like June, we will hold on to Jank a year too long. I'm afraid the "year to turn things around" would be next year for him when we are "finally off sanctions". By then, like June, we would just be twisting the knife. Unlike with football though, I know the basketball booster/s can afford to pull the plug on Jank with a couple years left on his contract. Lets hope that's the case.

You’re absolutely right. It is exactly like June Jones all over. Just like June, Jank has avoided contact with quality recruits that showed interest in SMU. Just like June Jones, Jank chose to recruit diamonds in the rough with no offers. Just like June Jones, Jank is absolutely disconnected from social media. Just like June Jones, Jank makes a bunch of excuses as to why the losses are piling up without taking any accountability. Just like when June Jones was the coach, Jank has you still being a sun-shiner.

How in the world am I being a sunshiner? Because I thought he shouldn't be fired before the season started? I've been very consistent in stating that the expectation of the program is to go to the tourney, and that if we don't go to the tourney this season, he should be fired.
