Are you old enough to be thinking about a guy closer to 12 years ago? Blond and kind of crazy?

He was so entertaining that my wife would only go in order to watch his routines.

I believe he got a nickname as "The Cowboy Drummer." He was certainly fun to watch
and spiced up the game quite a bit. I also believe he was here like 10-15 yrs ago.

Earlier in this year, there was a saxophone player who played with a lot of soul and
danced around a bit. He was fun to watch also, but I haven't seen him in the new semester.
Maybe he graduated or left school. Hopefully some of you band people on the board will
know who I am talking about.

The Cowboy Drummer was cool - and definitely fun to watch. Think that was around 2013-14. Also remember the Lobster (Crab) that appeared at every game (first Ramon and then the other guy). Good times.

well, I guess time passes quickly when you are having fun....10 to 12 years ago, wow...I think that was the guy...whatever happened to him...smu does not keep track of things before the computer records were set up,including donations,so I guess someone with institutional oral memory that was in the band, might let us know...otherwise just a lost soul ...one of many.

Without getting too personal, he's a great guy who has spent some time as a minister and teacher and is married to another Mustang.

And he graduated in what 2004? 15 years. That means we are old.

Must have been the guy in the cowboy hat - in original Moody - when the band was at the other end.

does he still "perform"...I would love to see him come in and play during a game...I don't know how that could be arranged...I think all the fans would enjoy the show.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that you could help find the next Cowboy Drummer and bring him (or her) to SMU by donating to the Diamond M Club -- basically the Mustang Club for the Mustang Band. Donations go to scholarships and to defray other costs not provided by SMU in the budget -- uniforms, instruments, recognition gifts for seniors, etc.

About 5 years ago    , you are a funny person.

Next month will be the 5 year anniversary when Nic hit that clutch shot to beat Cal @ Moody.

My bet is the Cowboy drummer performed over 12 years ago.

And yes, he was a classic, no doubt.

Put out an APB and bring him in. Play with the band and do a halftime show.
