It is a valid point but I remember what NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell once said that there are only enough shots in a game for three players and, I know it is a generalization, but this often reflected in in a team's game stats. Some players simply have a hot hand at a particular time; scoring stats become more meaningful, for instance, if a player is shooting 2 for 15 from behind the arc and 4 for 11 from the free-throw line.
