Hannah Miller Wins Silver In The 10,000 Meter On Conference Championship Day One

Wichita, Kan. (SMU) – Hannah Miller won a silver medal in the 10,000 meter as SMU Track & Field finished their first of three days at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships from Wichita State's Cessna Stadium.

Miller finished with a time of 34:28.48 to take second in the 10,000 meter, the junior's best AAC 10,000 finish after a pair of bronzes her first two seasons. Miller now has five total AAC Outdoor medals in her Mustang career. Svenja Ojstersek finished with a fourth-place finish, coming in with a time of 34:55.20 earning the Mustangs five team points. Senior Robin Montemayor set a new personal record in the race by nearly a minute, crossing the line with a time of 38:30.40 and in 15th.

As a team, the Mustangs sit in fourth place through the Championships first three completed events.

Chelsea Francis secured her spot in the 200-meter final by winning her heat on Friday with a time of 23.70.

In the 400-meter hurdle prelims, senior Madison Pyle and sophomore Ashton Woodsearned spots in Sunday's final. Pyle, the SMU recorded holder in the event, ran a time of 1:00.76 while Woods finished with a 1:00.93. Junior Jacy Sparks also started for SMU and finished with a time of 1:06.66.

Olivia Witt competed in the first half of the Heptathlon. She improved in three of the four events since her last Heptathlon in San Marcos including setting a personal record with 9.79 in the shot put. The freshman has 2,611 points heading into Saturday's final three events. The Heptathlon resumes Saturday at 11 a.m. with the long jump.

A pair of Mustangs seniors competed in the hammer throw. Kennedy Godsey set a personal best with a distance of 44.98 while fellow senior Daniella Murchison recorded a distance of 40.37.

Saturday's field action begins at 3 p.m. with the long jump featuring Mustang Nicole Iloanya.

The first Mustang track event of Saturday will be the 400-meter dash at 6:30 with Chika Iwuamadi representing SMU.

Saturday's action will be streamed on the American Digital Network with coverage beginning at noon.
