EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Zach Abercrumbia on transfer to SMU

Postby PonyPride » Fri Jun 07, 2019 11:41 pm

Defensive lineman Zach Abercrumbia visited with PonyFans.com to discuss his reasons for transferring to SMU, his impressions of the Mustangs' coaching staff and defense, what he wants to do after his playing days are over and his thoughts about finishing his college playing career in front of his hometown friends and family (and yes, the interview was interrupted by rain).

PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.

I hope he's as good a player as he is an interview. Welcome!

Nice interview. Sounds like a great addition!

Refreshing and encouraging to hear him talk about constant coach and scheme changes being a positive thing. So many players use it as an excuse!

Looking forward to seeing Zach on the field this fall!!!

Man, that's some good depth on the D line (Davis/Gary/Abercrumbia/Biggurs and then the young pups in Newman and Loveless ... that's a solid 3 deep as you develop Dotson and maybe even Chatman). If we can get the Arky CB and Nebraska safety eligible, this defense should actually be not that bad. A matter of it all gelling and coming together and of course as always injuries.

I really think this season is going to come down to how fast the offense can get out of the gates and we REALLY need the CB and safety transfers to be eligible. Without them, we have big holes in the back end.

Here's to hoping the RBs can stay healthy because that will be a huge part of how this offense does (we know the air game will be legit but need that balance).

Ojai is right. I can't remember the last time we had defensive line depth like that. Never in the 3 decades i've been watching.

His comments about Kyle Granson were pretty enlightening. The fact that KG was so positive about SMU says a lot about how the players and coaches treated him during his transfer year. My guess is that's going to be a bigger focus going forward as more and more players transfer.
