SMU Rallies To Tie With Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. (SMU) – The [RV] Mustangs rallied from a two-point deficit to tie No. 25 Oklahoma State 2-2 after two overtime periods on Sunday afternoon.

"It's a great place to play," head coach Chris Petrucelli said. "They have fantastic facilities and it was a really exciting atmosphere to be in."

Oklahoma State (7-0-2) struck first, finding the back of the net in the 36th minute. With the goal, the Cowgirls became the first team this season to score on the Mustangs (7-1-1) in the first half.

OSU increased their lead to two five minutes into the second half when Charme Morgan sent a soaring pass across the front of the goal and Grace Yochum headed it in near the left post in the 50th minute.

SMU got on the board in the 60th minute when sophomore Celiana Torres sunk a free kick from 21 yards out to cut the Cowgirl lead to 2-1.

Junior Isabelle Nashmi tied the match up in the 90th minute with one second left on the clock. A tap from junior Jewel Boland allowed Nashmi to get a left-footed shot from just outside of the box and find the upper right-hand corner of the net.

The Mustangs and Cowgirls battled it out through two overtime periods, but couldn't get any goals on the board.

"The great thing about this team is they just continue to fight," Petrucelli said. "They don't care what the score is or where they are or who they're playing. They just keep working to finish strong."

Torres and sophomore Courtney Sebazco led the Mustangs in shots with four each and three being on goal for Torres. Nashmi and freshman Wayny Balata both had one shot each to total 10 for SMU, one more than Oklahoma State.

SMU is back at Westcott Field on Thursday, Oct. 3 to open up conference play against UCF at 7 p.m. CT. The match will be the team's annual Pink Match, where jerseys will be raffled off.
