Rhett Lashlee Named Broyles Award Semifinalist

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (SMU) – Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach Rhett Lashlee was today named one of 15 semifinalists for the Broyles Award, presented to the nation's top assistant coach.

SMU is averaging 43.5 points per game this season and its eight games with 40+ points are a program record. The Mustangs have had 500+ yards of offense six times this season.

From 2018 to 2019, the Mustangs have improved dramatically in the national rankings, showing up in the top 10 in total offense, scoring offense and passing offense this season.

National Improvements:
Total Offense: 2018 (387.2, 80th) - 2019 (506.0, 8th)
Scoring Offense: 2018 (30.4, 53rd) - 2019 (43.5, 7th)
Passing Offense: 2018 (271.7, 27th) - 2019 (321.1, 9th)

Individually, Shane Buechele (Maxwell, Davey O'Brien), James Proche (Biletnikoff) and Xavier Jones (Doak Walker) were all named national semifinalists for their respective position awards.

From the list of 15, five finalists will be selected and invited to travel to Little Rock, Ark. where the 2019 Broyles Award winner will be announced on Dec. 10.

The Mustangs host Tulane for Senior Day Saturday at 3 p.m.
