SMU women's basketball falls in Tulsa, 65-58

TULSA, Okla. (SMU) – Johnasia Cash recorded her ninth double-double of the season, but it was not enough to counter the career day of Tulsa's Addison Richards as the Mustangs lost 65-58 in the Reynolds Center Saturday.

Cash finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds, and Amber Bacon scored a team-high 16 points in the road loss. Richards scored 25 points with 13 rebounds to lead the Golden Hurricane for her first double-double.

SMU used a 6-2 run over the last three minutes of the first quarter to tie the score at the break, 15-15. It was the second quarter when Richards did most of her damage. With 11 of Tulsa's 20 second-quarter points, the uncharacteristic boost gave the Golden Hurricane a 35-26 lead at halftime.

The Mustangs charged out of the lockerroom, scoring the first seven points of the third quarter. The run cut the lead to two, 35-33, less than two minutes into the second half. Tulsa countered to take a 43-33 lead, and took a five-point advantage into the fourth quarter, 47-42.

SMU again went on an early run to make it a one-possession game, 49-46, forcing Tulsa to call timeout. The Mustangs (10-14, 4-8 American Athletic Conference) were unable to get any closer. Tulsa (7-18, 2-10 The American) outscored SMU 6-3 in the final 1:10 for the win.

The Mustangs play at Wichita State Wednesday night before returning home on Feb. 22 to face Houston.

Tulsa? They had one AAC win before yesterday. Losing to them is much worse than the guys’ loss to ECU. That’s pathetic.

Women's program ... and no. It's only hopeless until there is a coaching change. How could this staff recruit now?

Would you let your kid play for him?

Records were banned from the radio in the 70s for the language in the headline for this game on the SMU site.
