UNCASVILLE, Conn. (SMU) - SMU fell to Memphis, 76-65, in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Basketball Championship on Friday night inside the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Four Mustangs scored in doubles figures during the loss. Johnasia Cash led the way with 19 in a fiery performance. All-Freshman selection, Reagan Bradley scored 13 along with fellow freshman Desirae Mathis. Amber Bacon chipped in 11 on the night

Ariana Whitfield chipped in four first-half assists in just five minutes of action. Memphis was aided by 5-of-10 3-point shooting in the half. Mathis surpassed her career high in points with a 9-point first half. The Tigers led by six at the intermission.

Memphis quickly pushed the lead to 14 in the first minutes of the second half. SMU cut the lead to 8 midway through the period, forcing Memphis to call a timeout. Memphis kept the Mustangs in check the rest of the quarter thanks to free-throw shooting. The Tigers hit 18-of-20 from the line in the game.

Memphis extended the lead to the largest of the game, 16, by the four minute mark. SMU picked up the press and was able to dwindle the Tiger edge to 9 with 54 seconds left. SMU forced 12 Memphis turnovers in the half.

Memphis knocked down 48% of its shots on the night led by Madison Griggs who hit 7-of-12 from behind the arc. They move on to face No. 3 seed Cincinnati in the quarterfinals.

The Mustangs finished the season with a 13-16 record winning four of their last six regular season games to finish in the top half of the conference.

What is pathetic xc is that WBB has had the NCAA tourney for now almost 40 years.

During that time SMU’s women have won 3 tourney games.

Men are actually worse, it was taken them over 50 years to win their last 3 tourney games.

I suspect there are at least 100, maybe 120, maybe 150 schools with more success???

Now that is truly PATHETIC

Like I said...performance review. How do we continually redefine success so that many get awards and big raises? I want to learn how to create such a world.

RPI 230? Don't worry, we won the sportsmanship award!
