As Recall, Dickerson and Waggoner were both injured in the next to last game of the season. The last game we played here in Arkansas and Meyer played James the entire gam. James mother had been complaining that her son wasn't playing enough so he took the entire load and rushed for over 100 yards but he took a beating.
Long live Inez Perez!

And remember soon thereafter Dupard signed. As the sole running back, he got lots of yardage.

Did Jeff Atkins overlap with Dupard in the Pony Express II?

Jeff Atkins was the other half of P.E. II.

I think Atkins came in one year after Reggie and I don't think he ever had a 1,000 yard season. Reggie was a FR who saw limited action behind Dickerson and James but pretty sure he ran for more than 1,000 yards in each of his SO, JR & SR seasons. I think both Atkins & Dupard averaged close to 6 yards per carry in that 1st year of the Pony Express II. Easy to forget how much talent SMU had in those days leading up to the death penalty.

IIRC Doak won more than one Heisman. How many did the others win. He had less talent in the OL than ED and CJ. I like ED but IMO Doak has done more for the rep of SMU than the others.

Doak only won one Heisman. He declined to be considered for a second when he wrote the committee saying something to the effect his season had been plagued by injury and he didn't deserve it.
That gesture only improved his "legend' with America's press.

One name deserves honorable mention, Bobby Wilson who had the winning touchdown in the 1935 "Game of the Century" against TCU

Missed that game. I was getting fit for a hearing aid and what they called spectacles back then.
