SMU: 5 student-athletes test positive for COVID-19

Postby PonyPride » Wed Jun 17, 2020 4:25 pm

From SMUMustangs.com:

DALLAS (SMU) - As part of its Healthy Return Plan, SMU Athletics tested all 75 student-athletes across multiple sports who voluntarily returned to campus this week for off-season workouts. Of those 75, five tested positive for COVID-19. All five were asymptomatic.

The five individuals who tested positive will remain in isolation for two weeks. The isolated student-athletes will be monitored via daily Tele-Health appointments and they will receive contactless meal deliveries. Any classes will be taken online only.

Contact tracing has taken place, and those impacted will quarantine, while also being monitored via daily Tele-Health appointments and taking classes online.

Totally to be expected. We've probably all had it.

There is some pretty good localized data on the question of how many people have contracted this virus. NYC has been the US epicenter thus far, and estimates there in April topped out at 21%.

We have *not* probably all had it. Wear a mask.

UT having Covid problems per the Texas Tribune:

“Just four days after University of Texas at Austin began voluntary summer workouts for the football team, school officials confirmed 13 athletes have tested positive for the new coronavirus.

All 13 players are now self-isolating, while 10 other student-athletes are in self-quarantine and are asymptomatic, according to a Thursday press release. Last week, UT reported two players were self-isolating after testing positive, though no athletes have been identified.”
