Meissner Named To CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team

AUSTIN, Texas (CoSIDA/SMU) – SMU men's golfer Mac Meissner was named to the 2019-20 Academic All-America Men's At-Large Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Friday.

Despite the cancellation of spring competition, the organization continued sponsorship of the award based on career statistics.

A two-time All-American on the course, Meissner has been honored by CoSIDA as an Academic All-District selection on two occasions. This is his first Academic All-America selection. Meissner is majoring in finance and boasts a 4.00 grade-point-average.

He holds the SMU record for single-season scoring average after a 70.44 over 18 rounds in 2019-20, averaging -1.06 strokes below par. Meissner also ranks second in career scoring average at 71.39 and is one of 11 SMU golfers with multiple collegiate tournament victories since 1985.

During the abbreviated 2019-20 season, Meissner earned second-team All-America honors by the GCAA, as well as PING All-Central Region honors. He was also named SMU's Male Student-Athlete of the Year. Meissner won the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate and posted four top-five finishes, with all 18 of his rounds counting toward the Mustangs' team score.

As a sophomore, Meissner led SMU in six events and had five top-10 finishes, including his first collegiate win at the AAC Championships where he set the championship low-round record as well as the three-round record with a 13-under 200. He went on to finish in the top 15 at the NCAA Championships and post a victory in his match play pairing in the NCAA Quarterfinals.

That season, he was a PING Third-Team All-America selection, all-region honoree, the AAC Player of the Year and was named to both the Arnold Palmer Cup and Haskins Award Watch Lists.

Meissner earned an individual bid to the NCAA Norman Regional as a freshman after leading SMU to a runner-up finish at the 2018 conference championship.
