1994 - Either New Mexico or North Carolina game. Should have been at the UNM game, but I distinctly recall attending the UNC game.

Moved to Dallas in 1959 and listened to all the SMU football and basketball games on radio back then. We were neighbors of both Hayden Fry and Tom Landry and went to all the Cowboys games but never set foot on SMU campus until I arrived as a FR on 1970 (after having moved to NY in 1966 and finishing H.S. there). !st game attended was 9/12/1970; a 28-11 loss to Oklahoma before about 50,000 in the Cotton Bowl

1964 when we beat up on University of Arlington 14-0 for our only win of the year.

October 11, 1963. Navy vs. SMU at the Cotton Bowl.

I remember very few things about the game other than SMU fans going crazy at the end. Dad took me for my 5th birthday.

I remember men in fedoras, smoking cigars. Many were dressed in suits. Different times, wonderful outcome.

And I miss my dad...

81, let’s bring back the fedoras, suits, and cigars.

I don’t really remember my first game. Dad is an alum and took me to games when I was a kid. Would have been late 60’s, early 70’s.

1st Pony Football Game Ever was...

Postby mrydel » Sun Jul 05, 2020 7:14 am

First game was after my 1966 high school football team won a game in Fort Smith to all but clinch the state championship. Coaches surprised us by taking us to Fayetteville to see the Razorbacks beat SMU 22-0 the following day. Then after officially winning the championship we were treated with a trip to the 12/31/1966 Cotton Bowl where SMU played and lost to Georgia. So my initial experiences with SMU were not positive events.

November 16, 1963 Arkansas Cotton Bowl Dallas, TX W SMU 14 Arkansas 7 24,000

My Dad SMU 50 took my brothers, and I SMU 76 from Longview to see this game. It was my first ever college game in a giant stadium, and probably Dad's first since he was in school. He went to and
told stories about the great SMU 20 Notre Dame 27 game in 1950 I think. Was impressed by Mustang Band, fight song Peruna, and also the oooooooooo PIG SOOIE yell. I was sold on college football :!:
May the forth be with us.

1972 vs. Wake Forest. We destroyed them. Team looked great that year until it lost to Va Tech.
