Just an interesting coincidence... I grew up in Atlanta. 1957 SMU vs Georgia Tech.
Ended in a 0 - 0 tie. Don Meredith was the quarterback.

1966, Cotton Bowl, Illinois vs SMU. SMU won 26-7

Worn a replica of a SMU Lettermen's sweater.

My father took me to at least one and perhaps two or three games at Ownby when Doak Walker played so in 1945, 47, and / or 48. I don't remember anything about the games. I do recall the photos in the sports section of one or both Dallas papers. Some times they used a still camera that took a rapid sequence of pictures starting say with teams set before the play started, the passer setting up, the ball being thrown and in the air, and being caught and then maybe the end of the play. We also went to THE 1949 Notre Dame game in the Cotton Bowl and I've written about that in other threads.

I was in Cub Scout Pack 37 sponsored by the church on campus and remember the night Doak visited a Pack meeting. And my family subscribed to Life Magazine and I recall the issue with Walker on the cover.

I wish I'd been able to hang on to the football programs and that that magazine.

Coaches surprised us by taking us to Fayetteville to see the Razorbacks beat SMU 22-0 the following day. Then after officially winning the championship we were treated with a trip to the 12/31/1966 Cotton Bowl where SMU played and lost to Georgia. So my initial experiences with SMU were not positive events.

Yep; Maxson was there for '71-'73 seasons and Morris from '72-'75 so they were the M&M Boys during the '72 & '73 seasons
