Seven Mustangs Earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CSCAA/SMU) – The SMU men's swimming and diving team saw seven of its student-athletes honored by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as Scholar All-Americans. The organization announced its list of honors Wednesday.

To be selected as a member of the CSCAA Scholar All-America first team as an individual, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade-point-average of 3.50 or higher and have been invited to their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.

Peter Smithson led the way for the Mustangs with first-team honors after earning an invite to the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships. The freshman finished the season with CSCAA All-America accolades on 3 meter and platform and was also named the American Athletic Conference Diver and Freshman Diver of the Year after winning a pair of individual titles.

Fellow conference champion Caleb Rhodenbaugh was one of six honorable mention selections for SMU. The junior swept breaststroke races at The American Championships.

In total, the student-athletes honored earned six all-conference honors and made 19 combined appearances in Championship Finals at the conference event.

As a team, the Mustangs posted a 3.73 GPA this spring, above the fall's 3.28 mark, which was the highest of all men's teams in the American Athletic Conference. The upward trend continues as the Mustangs' previous marks were set at 3.21 in the spring of 2019 and 3.11 in the fall of 2018. For their efforts, they were named a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team.
