Davis, Jolly Selected Preseason All-American Athletic Conference; Mustangs Picked Third

IRVING, Texas (SMU/The American) – Kendric Davis and Tyson Jolly have been selected to preseason All-American Athletic Conference teams, the league announced on Wednesday. Davis was honored to the first team with Jolly named to the second team. The Mustangs were picked to finish third in the conference race behind Houston and Memphis.

Davis was an All-AAC Third-Team honoree last season after leading the league with 6.7 assists (10th NCAA) and a 2.7 assist-to-turnover ratio (19th NCAA). The junior was second for SMU in scoring at 14.2 points (8th AAC) while also averaging 4.1 rebounds. He shot 44.9% overall (12th AAC) and 85.4% on free throws (2nd AAC). He also had a pair of points-assists double-doubles, including on Feb. 1 vs Tulane when he tied the AAC record with 13 assists (18 points). Davis was the MVP of the Southwestern Showdown and earned three AAC Weekly Honor Roll selections.

Jolly was also an All-AAC Third-Team honoree last season after leading the Mustangs in scoring at 14.5 points (7th AAC). He was third for SMU at 6.2 rebounds (13th AAC) and second with 2.3 assists per game. He shot 38.2% from three (7th AAC) and 78.0% at the free-throw line (14th AAC). The senior had five double-doubles last season, and scored 15 or more points in 18 games. He also earned two AAC Weekly Honor Roll nods and was a member of the Southwestern Showdown All-Tournament Team.

Head Coach Tim Jankovich enters his fifth season leading the Mustangs with a 90-49 record at SMU, that includes a 63-15 (.808) mark at Moody Coliseum. In the past four seasons, the Mustangs have seven wins over top-20 teams including a pair last season that came at Memphis and at home against Houston.

The Mustangs finished the shortened 2019-20 season with a 19-11 overall record. SMU went 15-2 at Moody Coliseum, winning eight of nine home games in league play. SMU led the AAC in scoring (72.9), field goal percentage (45.1%), free-throw percentage (76.2%, 25th NCAA), assists (15.6, 19th NCAA) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2).
