as much as many of us hope NOTHING is going to happen. little rickey is RGT's lap boy and he will be protected. Plus he has driven our sports programs to a new low and that makes RGT happy as he feels athletics are a PITB and would be happy without them.

I do have it from the powers that be that this is RGT's final year. I can't completely confirm, but a friend who works for admin thinks this is the case.

although i honestly don't think rgt is very much to blame here it all, except maybe for being a little eager to maintain the status quo. a concept which infuriates students in all aspects of the school, not just in athletics.

This is the Jerreh Cowboys approach. Make some flashy moves to be somewhat relevant here and there, but keep putting out a mediocre product as long as people keep buying the product. While butts are not in seats except for traditional SWC rivalries, RGT sees the admission applications roll in while starting the latest century university vision fundraising drive (how many centuries are there?) to keep funds flowing and stay targeted on the status quo. That attitude passes down to Hart ('look at our FB record, and top 25 teams, and blah blah blah') to keep the train rolling.

A systematic altered universe is the only thing that will truly CHANGE SMU athletics.

Anything short of that will keep this same old sheeyot happening. Forever.

How would you want things shaken up outside of athletics?

Its ok to always be wrong - but you dont have to prove it as often as you do. Your RGT vendetta is tiresome. You can say he doesnt make the right decision or that his emphasis is not in the right place - but the man has proven over 20 years he is very pro athletics. I personally think it is past time for him to retire, and we need new energetic new vision at the top. But to say he doesn't like athletics is just dumb.

Agreed. He's made some recent missteps, but I wouldn't say that's characterized his entire career.

New AD hire seems more complicated than a new coach hire. Do you look at fund raising, powerful personalities, good people skills, win/loss of all teams, employee happiness, what? Do you try to find an AD from a smaller school who wants to move up or an AD from a bigger school on their way down or an assistant AD from a big school who wants to run the show like you would in a coach search? Do you want an AD that takes charge and the buck stops on their desk or do you want someone who is looking for reassurance from the board and president with every move? You have to find someone who is a competent boss to coaches being paid 10 times what they make. How are these people found?

Lil Ricky is so far over his head as AD. We all know it doesn't matter how incompetent he is as long as he has the endorsement of RGT. He has more protection than Desmond Ridder. Unfortunately we can complain about it until we become red/blue in the face, but he will remain here, collecting a very nice paycheck, even though his incompetence is so consistent and obvious. The only hope is that he stumbles and bumbles into a new job at another university.

ok- couple of things. first you are totally wrong that he did all he could to promote fball and bball 20 yrs ago. that is B.s. and you know it.
The second issue is that he has done little to improve our academics. i.e. 20+ yrs ago our law program was at the top of the state of Texas. Today it is almost a joke. that was done on his watch.
our chemistry/biology facilities need serious upgrades in both staff and facilities ( from what I hear) and after raising millions nothing has been done. A few years ago we needed to replace our dean of the business school. Instead of going high and getting a person who could move the b-school much higher and who could compete with the top schools in the nation he settled and hired a has-been from a little MAC school. just a few examples why schools like tc-who and cougar high are rapidly rising in the ranking and we barely move upward.
I just want the best for our school and IMO he is over-paid and under-performing

Hart is clearly over his skis as AD here. He didn’t know to read the whole conference realignment, did not proactively have a plan in place for SD, our basketball program sucks, and we clearly didn’t position ourselves to be a candidate to be invited even into what is a diluted B12. The writing on the wall for Hart was not getting that invite. He should have been canned for incompetence.
