Saturday in Orlando

Postby Dark Horse » Mon Sep 26, 2022 11:57 am

Some are suggesting that this storm that is about to clobber Florida could be one of the biggest ever recorded. Hope the team and fans get there safely or it is postponed.

Would not be surprised to see this game pushed back a week to 10/7 or 10/8 since both teams already have those dates available. Anyone living on or has lived on or near the hurricane coasts knows how disruptive these storms can be

Would prefer 10/7 as we already have a short week coming after that AND needing to prepare for the Navy triple option

Hey lets offer to move the game to Ford this Saturday or next since SMU knows how to throw such a wonderful game-day experience that makes fans want to return for more!

There have been a couple of games in recent years that were moved from one team's stadium to the other. I'd think that delaying the game a week would be preferred by both schools, but would love it if we could get another game at Ford.

They'll play the game on Saturday. Ian will be in the mid Atlantic by that point. Temple and ECU may have more problems on Saturday.

Sure, but the Mustangs have to get there safely the day before. Even if the rain is gone, the airport could be pretty waterlogged, or backed up with days' worth of flights trying to take off and land.

The eye of the storm is tracking to pass really close to Orlando early am on Friday. When it goes through Orlando, Ian should be downgraded to a storm (39-73mph sustained winds) rather than a hurricane.

The really gnarly stuff will be Thursday afternoon. At that point, Ian will be closer to St. Petersburg as a Cat1 hurricane (sustained winds of 74-95mph), but because of the way cyclones rotate in the northern hemisphere, Orlando will be in the dangerous NE quadrant of the storm (the direction where most of the energy and water of the storm will be directed).

So as long as the stadium is still standing Friday morning, and assuming it has good drainage, hypothetically the game ought to be OK. By game time, the storm should be near Augusta, GA, and Orlando would then be in the SW quadrant (least dangerous) of the storm, with wind velocity being reduced by the subtractive affect of the storm moving away. Except for the possibility of an occasional band of rain cycling through, the conditions ought to be OK.

At least that's where things stand at this moment.

Probably the best news possible for our team..... gives them time to heal up and get their minds and hearts right. SMU wins by 7

No, it is literally already one of the biggest hurricanes. Not strongest, biggest. It is huge.
