As such, we will host a game every other year the Saturday after Thanksgiving (which if fair), and it will always be versus Cal. I like it as that also eliminates the possibility of hosting Clemson/Florida St./Miami that weekend when everyone is gone!
Cal/Stanford should always be played on rivalry week but we'll see if the ACC messes that one up
Notre Dame likely will keep playing SC./Stanford every Thanksgiving weekend in CA. So Cal could end with Stanfrod only every other year.

PonyPride wrote:From SMUMustangs.com: Mustangs Announce 2024 ACC Schedule CHARLOTTE, N.C (ACC/SMU). – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the upcoming 2024 season schedule for all teams on Wednesday. With the release, SMU has dates set for their conference opponents next season. The eight-game slate begins with a home contest against Florida State (Sept. 28), part of a four-game homestand to open the year. The Mustangs hit the road for three straight after that with games at Louisville (Oct. 5), Stanford (Oct. 19) and Duke (Oct. 26) to wrap up the month of October. November opens with home games against Pitt (Nov. 2) and Boston College (Nov. 16). The Mustangs head back on the road for its final away game at Virginia (Nov. 23) before the home finale against Cal on Nov. 30. The Mustangs will play one weeknight game in the upcoming year, a non-conference game against BYU at home on Friday, Sept. 6, bunched in-between the season opener against HCU (Aug. 31) and 103rd edition of the "Battle for the Iron Skillet" against TCU (Sept. 21). Times and TV information for all games are TBD and will be announced as they become available. Fans wanting to purchase season tickets for the 2024 season can do so right HERE. Current season ticket holders have until March 31 to renew their tickets for the 2024 season and can be found right HERE. For any ticket questions please contact 214-SMU-GAME or email tickets@smu.edu. 2024 SEASON SCHEDULESaturday, Aug. 31 vs. HCU Friday, Sept. 6 vs. BYU Saturday, Sept. 14 OPEN Saturday, Sept. 21 vs. TCU Saturday, Sept. 28 vs. Florida State* Saturday, Oct. 5 at Louisville* Saturday, Oct. 12 OPEN Saturday, Oct. 19 at Stanford* Saturday, Oct. 26 at Duke* Saturday, Nov. 2 vs. Pitt* Saturday, Nov. 9 OPEN Saturday, Nov. 16 vs. Boston College* Saturday, Nov. 23 at Virginia* Saturday, Nov. 30 Cal* * ACC Game
This is perhaps the best schedule SMU has ever played. I long that ion its bets years, SWC football was killer, but it was restricted to 2 states and so usually went large u known to the rest of the country and allowed for teams to be excellent within that small hime area and also perhaps not as as good as they could have been had they played closer to 'national' schedules. That is what this schedule gives SMU. That means that by seasons end, SMU will have experience against teams that are West Coast, northeastern, and southeastern from conference play alone. And both college and HS teams from those regions play the game a bit differently. Fans should enjoy the variety, and coaches should use it to maximize what the teams know and can do by post-season.

Some do, most don't. Those with SEC in-state games are usually on rivalry weekend (Ga Tech, Klempson, F$U). I think UNC and NCSU play then. Duke and Wake are this year and that's happened a few times recently but neither school thinks of the other as the #1 rival.

UVA and VT play each other 11/30 as well. They consider each other to be rivals as well. UVA fans look at VT as a bunch of bumpkins. VT fans view UVA as a bunch of spoiled preppies. I think we could very well develop a nice rivalry with Stanford due to not only football, but golf, tennis, swimming, etc.

Was hoping BC would be our Homecoming game but that's awful late in the season. Looks like Pitt or do we schedule an 8th home game in that 10/12 slot that is usually the best time for Homecoming?

Any hints IPP as to which way SMU is leaning? Home or road? G5 or P5? Sept. or Oct.? Charleston Pony wrote:Was hoping BC would be our Homecoming game but that's awful late in the season.
I was hoping the BC game would be in Sept. so they could enjoy some Texas heat.

Would be a fun game, but I see 12 scheduled games: https://msuspartans.com/sports/football/schedule/2024Does *anyone* other than SMU in FBS need a 12th game at this point?

It appears that at least one ACC Team is taking advantage of the conference's new reach into Texas: https://pittsburghsportsnow.com/2024/01 ... ard-texas/ "Bronowski extended offers to basically the entire Proper High Offensive line Wednesday" TCU, Baylor, TT and those ilk may be sorry they've opened that door by blackballing SMU from Big 12...

I don't doubt that Clemson, FSU and others will follow.

Somebody on the Duke board posted yesterday that FAU and NMSU also still need games this fall.
