During today's mid-day newscast on KXAS-TV Channel 5, a satellite feed interview was conducted with Brian Baumgartner of NBC's comedy series "The Office". It was one of those self-promoting pieces plugging the network's upcoming Fall season. At the end of the interview, Baumgartner says, "Hey! Before you go I have to say I went to S.M.U. in Dallas! GO PONIES! Get those Pony Ears up!" and then he flashes the Pony Ears sign!

This is a joke, right? No SMU alums in the public eye will admit they attended college here.

No joke, DiamondM75. My wife - an SMU grad from 1978 - saw it and immediately called me on my cell phone to tell me about it.

Is that the walk-on WR from the early 1990s? Or related to him?

Doubt it's the same guy. He spent all of his time at the Meadows School of Arts (theatre).

As far as athletics go, I remember the guy as a pretty solid post player for the SMUT Intramural B-Ball team. By solid post I mean, nobody could move his large frame from the lane.

I think he had friends in the band that lived on my floor in McElvaney. I remember the guy somehow.

He was in my 1995 graduating class. I remember him from my freshman year--nice, funny guy.
