The top running back in the state of Louisiana for the 2003 recruiting season is Alley Broussard from Acadiana High School in Lafayette. The running back racked up some impressive numbers during his junior season, enough to earn him all-state honors.

Broussard stands at 6-foot-1, 228 pounds and runs a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash. He is the prototypical power-back that is so highly coveted by coaches.

“Alley is an outstanding football player, he’s got size, he’s got strength, he’s got good speed and he’s a gamer and an exceptional athlete, “ Wrecking Ram head coach Willard Hanks said.

Broussard finished his junior season with 2,676 yards on 250 carries with 32 touchdowns. The passing game is not an integral part of the Ram offense but Broussard was still able to catch 20 balls for 214 yards out of the backfield.

The blue-chip back was a terror in the playoffs where he had 723 yards on 100 carries in four games. He rushed for 290 yards and four touchdowns in a playoff game against Covington who had only allowed 58 points in eleven games.

Letters from of the nations top football programs have been arriving daily at Acadiana High.

“A bunch of letters have been coming in from schools in the Southeastern Conference and the Big-12, “ Hanks said.

Some of those schools include Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Texas, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Baylor, SMU, Tulane and many others.

LSU tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Derek Dooley is recruiting Broussard. Tiger head coach Nick Saban and Dooley visited Acadiana High in late January to see Broussard in person and to secure game film.

Broussard is working very hard to qualify academically and the staff at Acadiana thinks he will be very close. He took the ACT for the first time two Saturdays ago after spending a lot of time preparing.

“We’re kind-of crossing out fingers in regards to that, “ Hanks said. “We want to see how he did and what’s going to happen to him in order to be eligible and all of this other stuff.”
