Great game tonight. Our first post has been made, but it was accidently posted in a different topic.

***REMEMBER, POSTS OUTSIDE OF THIS TOPIC DO NOT COUNT***

Here was Rambo's post, the first of the contest...

quote:
DeWayne Floyd was definitely the MVP of tonights game. He crashed the boards and brought a fire to the floor (and crowd) that no other player can. He gets into the game and brings everyone in with him. He even got all RGT and Copeland up and screaming, along with the other folks in sections N and M.

Q's three was the MVP. He might not be the best in the game but he sure sent Tulsa home with shame.

Judges, please notice my rhyme.

The Q's three was huge at the end. He clinched the victory. This game was huge because it made up for last years double OT fumble. The Q made sure it happened. He is HOT right now!

The MVP of the win over Tulsa? That's easy: The PonyFANS!

That may sound like I'm kissing up to the judges (although it beats Bballer's rhymes), but it's true. SMU's PonyFans were awesome, baby! Tulsa brought a storm of fans south from Tornado country, and they made some noise, but the red and blue fans were out in force. Whenever the Tulsa fans started making noise, the SMU fans drowned them out!

Moody was a madhouse! The place was jumping! The PonyFans deserve the MVP (and I deserve the hat)!

Bballer, what are you talking about? Q hit the big 3 at the end, but he was nowhere near his normal self tonight. Didn't shoot well, except from the line.

Just like every other game this year, Damon (Hancock) was DaMAN. 19 points led everyone. He was unstoppable down the stretch, and he clamped down on their little point guard, Harrington. Shut him down. Damon is the MVP of this game and of the season.

I know Jeryl missed a couple of free throws late -- again -- and he didn't score too much, but he did a lot of other things. Passed well, played great defense, ran the offense when Hancock was on the bench. Jeryl does so much more for this team, other than his scoring. He's always the MVP.

MVP: Hancock! Hancock! Hancock!

The Mustangs needed a clutch win Saturday to stay in the WAC conference race. They rallied from 14pts down in the game to defeat the Golden Hurricane. The clutch player for the game was Damon Hancock. Hancock was gritty towards the end of the game and made some key buckets with his hop steps down the stretch to finish with a game high 19 pts. He played with sense of urgency on both ends of the court and eventually shut down Harrington when the Mustangs needed it most. He forced some key turnovers that the Mustangs desperately needed. His free throws at the end of the ballgame sealed the win for SMU.

How about Quinton Ross? The man struggled with his shot, and still he contributed a lot -- rebounds, passing, hellacious defense. Then, when the game was on the line, he showed the composure and savvy of a real leader, drilling that huge 3.

Ross was the MVP of the Ponies' biggest win of the year.

Just wanted to add my two cents on who should get the MVP. I don't know how SMU pulled that game off. There shooting was horrible but somehow there defense saved them. The person who shot the best or least worst was Damon Hancock. His defense is really what stood out though. He was a real leader and pulled through for the team. This game really emphasized how "offense wins games but defense wins championships." Defense is so important yet can be overlooked. Good job Damon and the rest of the team for shutting down Tulsa. Hopefully SMU will feed of off this game and really dominate the WAC! Go Mustangs!

The MVP was of course Sasser. After all defence wins games. He may only have scored 10 points, but his effort on the defensive end is what won that game against Tulsa.

Of course Damon held his 19 points and Ross hit the pretty 3 that set the Mustangs hot. But without the rebounds, assists, and steals layed out by Sasser to help win the game, nothing else would of mattered in the end.
Offense sells tickets...defence wins games..so there goes 100% from Sasser

Way to go Sasser and all the players.

Willie Davis was the MVP! He was second in scoring (16 points), went
hard after every rebound (finished with 8) and hit two big 3s. How can
it go to anyone else? Besides, Willie's a senior, and a real leader. We
need him to pick up steam as we head toward the WAC tournament and the
NCAA's. If Willie's on, we're in!

I would have to give the MVP award for the Tulsa game to Sasser. On a night when he really struggled from the field, he found other ways to contribute and led the Ponies to victory. Several posts have mentioned the free throws that he missed, but he shot 75% (6 of 8) from the line on a night when the rest of the team shot 52%. Sasser was also big on the boards especially down the stretch. He came up with a huge board with about 4 minutes left and pushed the ball up the court to dish to Q for his baseline drive and three point play. He also pulled the rebound out of the air after Harrington's 3 point miss. Another big play occurred when he outhustled Harrington for a big steal and layup that gave the Mustangs their first lead with 3 minutes left. He was also responsible for creating the back breaker when he penetrated and dished to Q who drained the jumper to gave us a 4 point lead. He played smart basketball on Saturday. He realized his shot wasn't falling, so he worked the ball around and again led the team in assists. He also worked [deleted] the glass and led the team in rebounds with 9, including several on the offensive end. The 4 steals were also big reasons why we were able to erase the 14 point Tulsa lead. Hancock put up some points and played well defensively, Willie played a solid game and Q heated up late, but I think Sasser was the most valuable player of the game and the main reason why we were able to beat Tulsa for the first time since 1962-63.

Q was the MVP. More than any other player, he can help the team win even when his shot isn't falling. The man plays deathgrip defense and rebounds like a madman, and he makes the rest of the team better. He's the most indispensable player on the team. Next year, when he and Damon Hancock are running the show, this will be a better team. The man has ice in his veins to jack up that 3 after struggling with his shot all night. He's not a showboat, but he has the confidence in his game that we need to see. Q was clearly the MVP.

I say it was the Mustang Band. Not only did they (FINALLY) mix in some new music, but they were loud and drowned out the TU fans. The band was loud (musically and support-wise) and filled Moody with sound. They were great. My only question is this: where has that been all season? And that one big guy who yanks up his shirt and pats his gut while the other team shoots free throws is hilarious! Maybe HE is the real MVP (but my vote is for the band.)
