Sophomore midfielder Zach Barnes opened the scoring in the 26th minute when he and fellow sophomore Juan Castillo executed a perfect give-and-go at the top of the box before Barnes finished off a shot from eight yards out.
Castillo netted a goal of his own in the 43rd minute for a 2-0 Mustang lead when he fired a shot from 28 yard out that hit off the left post and in.
Redshirt freshman Damian Rosales added to the Mustang lead with a shot from 10 yards out in the 64th minute. Freshman Emmet Kumeh sent a ball in to the box to Rosales, who collected the ball, turned around and sent the ball in just inside the left post.
Freshman Edu Aranda closed out the scoring with a goal in the 83rd minute. Sophomore Chris Sendejas made a run down the right side and crossed the ball to Tyler Engel. Engel turned and fed a pass to Aranda, who tapped it home.
Sophomore Jaime Ibarra and freshman Devin Cook split time in goal, with each making two saves for the combined shutout.
SMU hosts conference rival Memphis in another exhibition game at noon Sunday at Westcott Field. Admission to Sunday's game is free. The Mustangs open the regular season against No. 13 William & Mary on Aug. 27 at Westcott Field at 7 p.m.
