Strengths as a Player

Harrison Loveless is a very versatile defensive lineman who has played each position on the defensive line at the front of Cypress Ranch’s 3-4 defense, although he played far more extensively at end, which is where he is expected to play at SMU. Strength and high football IQ allowed him to spend a lot of time in opposing backfields.

Interviews

Cypress Ranch head coach Gene Johnson on Harrison Loveless:

Harrison was underrecruited based on his junior tape, but really came up big as a senior. I don’t know whether it was new confidence, feeling greater responsibility after losing last year’s seniors or something else, but something clicked and when it was time to step up, he did.

You hear that adage from coaches about asking seniors to “play like seniors,” and he did. There were times he was really dominant.

The strength of Harrison’s game is his strength, if that makes sense. He uses his hands really well when he plays, and he has a really fast motor — he’s always hustling.

SMU is a perfect place for him. That program is really on the rise, and it’s a place where he can get a tremendous education. I have a ton of faith in Coach Morris and his staff, the way they have recruited our kids. He has always been fair to us and to our kids, which says a lot.
