Strengths as a Player

Toby Ndukwe is a fast, wiry defensive end with room to add significant size and strength as he matures and gets immersed in a college weight program. When going against blockers who are much bigger than he is, he compensates for his lanky frame with long arms and excellent hands that allow him to free himself, and then an excellent burst of acceleration when closing on the quarterback. Ndukwe is recovering from knee surgery he endured after his senior season ended prematurely when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament (AC) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee. Now about four months removed from surgery, Ndukwe said he has a good range of motion in the knee and now plans to focus on getting his leg stronger. He has done some light jogging and said he hopes to be running fully in April.

Interviews

Toby Ndukwe on why he chose SMU:

To be honest, it was the coaches more than anything. When I went up there to visit, everything planning-wise was done right. They talked about the school and how great the school is, which is important to me and to my parents. We even talked about graduating in 3.5 years.r
r
I really liked the weight room. I watched some of the workouts, and I think that’s something I’d like to be a part of.r
r
SMU is a great school. I feel like we’re a young team on the rise, and I wanted to go someplace where I could make a significant impact.
