Strengths as a Player

Justin Guy-Robinson has very polished coverage technique, thanks in part to working with former Texas Tech/NFL/NFL Europe/CFL defensive back Anthony Malbrough. A strong player who has a lot of room to add size and strength, Guy-Robinson is a smart, versatile player who has excelled on special teams and occasionally lined up at receiver, in addition to his primary role as his team’s top cornerback.

Interviews

Justin Guy-Robinson on why he chose SMU:

It came down to the family part, more than anything. They treated me more as a person before they even cared about me as an athlete. I liked the way Coach Morris and Coach Mac (Archie McDaniel) have a relationship outside of football — that showed me that football is important, but their family idea is first. The rest of the staff showed me they were a family without me even being there, the way they stayed in constant communication. They said you can talk to them about everything, and I believe it.

I talked to some players, and they say they’re 100 percent in with Coach Morris and what he’s doing. I talked to a couple of people from the Houston area, like Jordan Carmouche and Courtland Sutton.

SMU was where I felt like I fit in — it’s just a really cool place. They didn’t pressure me at all. Coach Malone kept telling me and Ar’Mani (Johnson) that he wants us to come in ready to play. He wants us to work for it, and to make the other (returning) guys work for it, too. It’s up to Jordan Wyatt and Eric (Sutton) and Christian (Davis) and those guys — it’s going to be a ride, but it’s just all about how you compete.
