The NFL turned out en masse Thursday at SMU's Gerald J. Ford Stadium to evaluate some of the Mustangs' top players for next month's NFL Draft.
Among the teams represented at Ford Stadium were: the Dallas Cowboys, the Baltimore Ravens, the Indianapolis Colts, the Tennessee Titans, the Denver Broncos, the Oakland Raiders, the Cleveland Browns, the Carolina Panthers, the Miami Dolphins, the Seattle Seahawks, the Atlanta Falcons, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Green Bay Packers, the New Orleans Saints, the Buffalo Bills, the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots. At least three teams — Baltimore, Indianapolis and Green Bay — had multiple representatives in attendance.
Five members of the 2009 Mustangs worked out for the scouts: safety Bryce Hudman, linebacker Chase Kennemer, cornerback/kick returner Bryan McCann, running back Shawnbrey McNeal and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders. Former SMU players who got measured, weighed and tested were nose tackle Serge Elizee, tight end Vincent Chase and linebacker Alex Odiari.
The star of the day was McCann, who measured in at 5-10 1/4 and 182 pounds, put up 14 reps on the NFL-standard 225-pound bench press, jumped 40 1/2 inches in the vertical jump and ran sizzling times of 4.28 (with the wind at his back) and 4.32 (into the wind) in the 40-yard dash.
Sanders let most of his numbers from last month's NFL Combine speak for themselves. He did opt to jump again, and although he had the best broad jump of all wide receivers at the Combine (leaping 10-6 in Indianapolis), he set a new standard when he jumped 10-10.
